FAQ
Questions about Jaal, answered
What Jaal is, what syncs, how passwords are protected, and what Jaal does not do.
Getting started
What is Jaal?
Jaal is a desktop web browser for Windows. Ulkaa Account signs you in once per device, each browser profile follows one Ulkaa account, and Ulkaa sites open signed in. Bookmarks, settings, open tabs and passwords can follow you to your other computers.
Is Jaal free?
Yes. Jaal is free, and so is sync with your Ulkaa account.
Can I switch from Chrome, Edge or Firefox?
Yes. Jaal imports bookmarks, history, search engines and passwords from Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Firefox. Safari is imported through its export files. Chrome 127 and newer need their password export file for passwords.
Where can I download it?
From the download page. If it says Jaal is not published yet, set up your free Ulkaa account to be ready, and check back.
Account and sync
Does Jaal work with Ulkaa Workspace?
Yes. One Jaal profile following your Ulkaa account covers your personal content and every Ulkaa Workspace you belong to, with no separate sign-in. The new tab can show the tasks and calendar of one workspace. Ulkaa Workspace decides access on every request: roles apply, a workspace you are not a member of shows nothing, and a locked workspace is read-only.
Do I need an Ulkaa account?
Yes, a free one. Jaal has no sign-in of its own and needs the Ulkaa Account app, signed in, to run. The account turns on sync and signs you in to Ulkaa sites automatically.
What syncs?
Bookmarks, settings, open tabs, and passwords and passkeys. History sync is optional and off until you turn it on. You can also send a tab to another device.
Does sync cost anything?
No. Sync is free.
Can I use more than one profile?
Yes. Each Jaal profile binds one of the accounts you added in Ulkaa Account.
Passwords and passkeys
How are passwords protected?
Records are encrypted with AES-256-GCM on your device before they sync, so the server stores ciphertext only. The key is protected by a recovery code or an Argon2id passphrase you choose.
How do I add a new computer?
Approve it from a computer you already trust. You check a fingerprint, and both devices show the same six-digit code. If the codes differ, deny the request.
Has the encryption been audited?
Not yet. The password and passkey code has not had an external security review. We will publish one when it has.
Does Jaal check for breached passwords?
Yes. It uses k-anonymity, so only a short hash prefix leaves your device, never the password.
Can I import passwords?
Yes, from Chrome-family browsers on Windows. Chrome 127 and newer need their password export file.
Privacy
Does Jaal use HTTPS?
Jaal is HTTPS first: it tries the secure version of a site before the plain one, and shows whether the connection is secure.
Does Jaal block ads?
No. Jaal has no built-in ad or tracker blocker. It warns you about phishing and malware sites and asks before a site uses permissions such as location.
Is history saved?
History is saved on your computer as in any browser, and it syncs only if you turn history sync on. A private window is kept apart from your profile.
Compatibility
Is Jaal on Mac or Linux?
Not yet. Windows is the only system Jaal has been verified on. Other systems are being tested, with no date.
Can I install Chrome extensions?
No. Jaal does not support browser extensions. It runs userscripts and userstyles.
Does Jaal work in Bangla?
Yes. Jaal is available in Bangla and English.
How does Jaal compare with other browsers?
See the comparison pages for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox and Opera, including where they are the better choice.
